Simone C. Drake, Hazel C. Youngberg Trustees Distinguished Professor of African American and African Studies, recently published an article in the Ohio Humanities magazine Pathways titled "All Because of a Black Nationalist Flag." The article offers “a brief account of the beginnings” of the Department of African American and African Studies and as part of her “current book project on integration in Columbus Public Schools—Becoming Educated: A Midwest Story of Race, Law, and Culture” and her documentary, Shutdown, about the police raid at Linden McKinley High School in 1971.
