Gwen Kagey Scholarship

This year The Department of African American and African Studies will award academic scholarships to AAAS undergraduate majors, minors and graduate students in good standing.  These scholarships are funded through the department’s Gwen H. Kagey Endowed Scholarship Fund.  The Gwen H. Kagey was established in 1995 by the OSU Board of Trustees with funds from the estate of Gwen H. Kagey (B.A. Theater’75).  This award provides support for undergraduates and graduate students in the program to attend conferences, workshops, study abroad and other academic activities. 

Funding Guidelines

  • Students may apply for funding once per academic year.
  • Students may be awarded no more than $250 at the undergraduate level per academic year
  • Students may be awarded no more than $500 at the graduate level per academic year
  • The maximum award amount during period enrolled at OSU cannot exceed:
  • $1,000 undergraduate
  • $2,000 graduate

Requirements for Submission

  • Completion of Kagey Scholarship Form (available online or in 486 University Hall)
  • Statement of Intent: Brief Explanation regarding the intended purpose for the use of the funds, and how the experience gained will enhance your academic, professional, and personal development (not more than 2 pages, double-spaced).
  • 1 Letter of Support from an AAAS faculty, or an affiliated faculty member
  • Budget detailing how the funds will be used (*Note that original receipts for expenditures will be required upon return)
