Welcome to the AAAS Community Extension Center!!!
Located in the historic Mount Vernon area in near east Columbus, the Community Extension Center provides community outreach and education programs designed to enhance the educational opportunities of students and improve the quality of life for people who live and work in the neighborhoods near and around the center and Columbus's urban communities. Activities such as faculty and student research projects, non-credit courses designed to offer personal and community enrichment, and college classes aimed at non-traditional students provide a valuable context for the university's commitment to outreach and engagement and research.

The Department of African American and African Studies Community Extension Center has been awarded a Civic and Community Education and Engagement Grant by the National Council of Black Studies.In 2008 the Columbus City Council recognized and honored the Ray Miller Institute for Change and Leadership for its outstanding service in the area of workforce development in the city of Columbus.
The Franklin County Earned Income Tax Coalition is currently seeking volunteers to provide free tax return preparation to persons with low to limited incomes during tax season (late January to early March) at the African American and African Studies Community Extension Center. Volunteer training will be provided.
